The Atlanta Jazz Festival

Often labeled as one of America’s largest Jazz Festivals, this annual celebration is hosted at Piedmont Park, and features the music of talented legends as well as up-and-coming artists.The whole purpose of the festival is to provide beautiful music to Jazz lovers (both young and old) and introduce music enthusiasts to the rich heritage that Jazz music has to offer. The sports culture of Atlanta

When talking about Atlanta’s rich history and culture, it would be impossible to ignore the Atlanta Braves. One of America’s favorite pastimes is baseball, and to Atlanta residents, there’s no better team than the Atlanta Braves.Located at Aisle 134 (northwest side of Turner Field), the Atlanta Braves Museum and Hall of Fame hosts a collection of over 600 Braves memorabilia, and offers the perfect way to learn about the team’s history. In-fact, the museum leaves no moment of the team’s existence untouched; artifacts and photographs of the Braves’ journey from Boston through to Milwaukee are also a part of the venue. 2010 Halloween events

Halloween is almost here and Atlanta is celebrating in style. To help you make the most of the city’s festivals and events, we’ve compiled a list of the top holiday inspired celebrations.Boo at the ZooStarting on the weekend of October 23 and lasting until Halloween weekend, Zoo Atlanta hosts their Boo at the Zoo event. Running from 11am and ending at 3pm, families can expect to enjoy delicious treats, traverse magical paths, interact with numerous characters, and see over 1,000 animals. The Atlanta Cyclorama

One way to appreciate Atlanta’s rich history is by exploring the events of the Battle of Atlanta. This Civil War battle, which occurred on July 22nd in 1864, allowed the Union Army to beat the Confederates in Atlanta. At the Atlanta Cyclorama and Civil War Museum, visitors can appreciate this local battle by admiring the largest painting in the world; the Battle of Atlanta.Spanning 358 feet, and reaching 42 feet in height, the painting was created from 1885-1886. Now, the gigantic painting is accented by a rocky terrain and three-dimensional Civil War figures; features which give a vivid representation of the battle. Read the rest of this entry »

High Museum of Art Atlanta hosts Dali exhibit

Opening this past August, and remaining open up until January 9th of next year, the High Museum of Art Atlanta will showcase the late works of Salvador Dali.Offering a collection of the artist’s greatest works (over 40 to be exact), the exhibit also contains sculptures, photographs and films, several of which, have never been revealed to the public. Dali often stated that his work represented the subjects of his time, and the Atlanta exhibit is exploring this context of the artist’s later work: “The exhibition considers for the first time the diverse body of work that Dal created in the last forty years of his career. Reinventing himself during the 1940s, Dal used his art to visually explore science, psychology, and religion” (quote provided by the High Museum of Art Atlanta). Read the rest of this entry »
